Ranka's
Marionette Theatre

We are a two-person company, consisting of Ranka Gatu, artist and performer; and Scott Hill, business and stage manager.

Having started a puppetry career in her native Sweden, Ranka found it surprisingly difficult to develop that profession in the United States. In 1980, Ranka and Scott turned to weekend street performing at Ghirardelli Square, in San Francisco. Soon Scott quit his job at a computer company so they both could work full-time developing their new puppet-theatre company. From making a solid living as weekend street performers, Ranka's performance venues expanded into private parties, business luncheons and conventions, bars, churches, schools, one Las Vegas casino, art museums, and festivals.

Ranka finds nothing more fulfilling than creating and performing with her characters. Both Ranka and Scott are committed to presenting uniquely beautiful and joyous performances to children, families, and adults.
