The Leopard, the Goat, and the Yam (Africa)

Natiki, a young African girl, is helping her family move from one side of the river to the other. Natiki has only three things left to move: a yam, a goat, and a leopard. (When these pictures were taken, Natiki was at her grandmother’s. So her brother Nelson posed for these photographs.)

The trouble is, Natiki can only carry one thing at a time in her small boat. And she can’t leave the goat with the yam (because goats eat yams); nor can she leave the leopard with the goat (because leopards eat goats). So how is Natiki going to get all three safely across the river? With students helping, Natiki is sure to solve this dilemma.
